I know some of you scream censorship and whatever...but this is what we prefer...
A. You can comment on individuals...but when it gets personal such as one's physical appearances...I draw the line. I don't have to give examples. I think you can tell.
B. I would prefer that we keep this on a PG level and no crude comments such an anatomy licking or whatever.
C. You can speak your comments and you don't have to be PC...but you do have to have class.
Either abide by those rules or don't come in.

Thank you for giving us another great sounding board. Hopefully this board will let us speak up with unbiased opinions without getting our posts deleted.
I think that the few rules that BB stated are all that should be needed to keep this place happy. :)
BTW, I like the appearance of this message board. It's easy on the eyes vs an all black or all white screen.
I would like to have the option of having a post avatar, however.

I have been looking for a forum to try and keep up with all the stories that happen when ESPN is strapped for time and you just get quick glimpses of whats going on:)
I am just a fan who likes the competition of the teams and their machines I have never been to a race but maybe someday.
And if I ask a question easy on the flames I'm not all that knowledgeable about the sport:D

A little off the subject of drag racing but the Formula 1 race looked like a disaster in Indy. I watched it for about 5 minutes. There were empty seats everywhere including the main straight away. I don't see how they could have had even 50,000 at this major event? Remember they don't draw the Thursday, Friday and Saturday crowds like drag racing does. Guess they might pull this race out of the U.S.??

Wrong again Larry - as usual.
100,00 + on Sunday
75,000 + on Saturday
Probably 50,000 on Friday - although I dont know for sure.
http://sports.espn.go.com/rpm/columns/story?seriesId=6&columnist=blount_terry&id=2906439
Indy seats almost 300,000, so looks can be decieving.
Still, I think the crowd in down a little more than expected - although last weekends Canadian GP was sold out at over 345,000 over 3 days.
Odds are that a 2nd US GP will be added in the streets of Las Vegas - or that Las Vegas will replace Indy. Look out if F1 goes to Vegas, attendance will go through the roof.
Its all good.......

I'm sure it's a negotiating ploy, but your namesake has said, on the record, that the United States was not important to F1.
While there was a decent crowd at Indy, it was down from the past. My guess is the little tire incident a few years back hasn't helped.
That, and the race was rather boring. And Bernie, I like open wheel stuff, so don't think I'm just rippin' on F1! Frankly, the IRL runs a better race.

Baloney, the place was almost empty. Sure it seats a lot. I've heard 257,000. I did estimates by looking at sections of the track. Being kind I could see several small grand stands which were full. One held 3 to 4 thousand. The other maybe 7 or 8 thousand. On the straight away the seats appeared to be about 80 to 85 % empty. A friend of mine at the race couldn't believe the tiny crowd there. He said the place was 80 to 85% empty on Sunday. Why do you think Formula 1 is so upset with the attendance.

Because the real Bernie expects 400,000.

I'm not sure that half that amount was there. The race itself was on Fox (instead of SPEED) and they commented several times about the crowd.(or lack there of)
I don't know what it is about F1, it just doesn't have much excitement. At least at Indy, there's a CHANCE to have a real race, the street races are just horrible. Which is why I leave CART alone!
Growing up in Texas, drag racing, and open wheel stuff was the deal. We knew about NASCAR, but nobody paid attention. I've always followed the open wheel stuff, and if you just can't be at a drag strip, a Friday or Saturday night at a Sprint Car race will do quite nicely! (WoO, or USAC)
Maybe it's the "oval bias" we have in the States, I don't know. But, road courses are not always fun to watch, and street races are a snooze!
Now I can appreciate the F1 cars, because they are so over the top, but they are too fragile, and it doesn't take much for a team to throw in the towel.
I guess I'll just stick with the IRL.

I have been there and to Montreal and can say with authority that the crowds at Indy are not what they could be...Montreal was a different story altogether, every seat filled and huge crowds everywhere in town on Rue St Catherine until dawn. When Montoya was a contender was the biggest year I saw at Indy...the tire incident really pissed off alot of people...
My theory about the limited interest in the US for F1 is 2 things:
#1 the engines rev so high the high pitched exhast noise isn't what Americans equate with horsepower and speed: namely a big V8
#2 the way the european drivers look and act puts Americans off: they see them as to aloof and slightly effeminate.
not fair in either case, but that's my take on it.
Bernie's right about moving to Vegas, it's the only thing that can save F1 in this country.
