Shoot - looks like we stuck watching the last 1/4 of a ground and pound football battle before we get to watch qualifying.
Feel sorry for those of you not in the pacific time zone.

I just loved how they cut out the last round of Top Fuel qualifying. I'm really thinking more and more that the Pro's should drop NHRA & ESPN and move over to IHRA where everyone is welcome. A few move over maybe the cash would follow?? Speed Channel seems to stay on time!

They stay on time because they have very little live programming.

that's the round I wanted to see the most...I thought my TIVO screwed up...luckily I always record an extra hour after the scheduled end...also I can fast forward thru commecials in about the time it takes to stage and run a nitro car...I'm tired of ESPN's shabby treatment of NHRA events but what can be done...Speedchannel could put NHRA in their schedule easily enough, just cut out some of the Jesse James/Boyd Coddington knock-offs.
Seems like things started out well enough when ESPN took over the TV rights, but this last year or two they seem to have placed less and less priority on NHRA...mabey Evan Knoll will buy ESPN

Why is everyone complaining about a half an hour delay? I would gladly give up a half an hour here and there and still see everything same day! how many times has it actually happened this year?..... not very often at all maybe twice. I really dont believe anyone would really want to give up same day coverage for that joke of speed channels coverage 4 weeks later at 3 o clock in the morning. I could see complaining if they cut away some of the show but dang people quit being so petty!!

Are you complaining about people complaining ?
lol - its all good I think I understood what you where saying.
btw - they did cut some of TF coverage. However, I think depending on what time zone you where in the coverage was slightly differant.
Anyways, this post was not suppose to be a bitchfest regarding the woes of the world. Just a lonely fan looking for the comradery of other fellow fans not that interested in watching what looked like at the moment the last quarter of a blowout football game.
Which insidentally turned out to be pretty exciting.
Anyways, go Stansfield maybe today is the day?

These "preemption" threads are so useless, anyone who posts another one should be banned from ever posting again on this site. Get it? Go back to the 'Mater and whine.
We are smart over here. We know drag racing gets pre-empted because it's not a live event. Waste of cyberspace

Well let me join in the complaint about the complaining people getting complained about complaining. Like that other guy said, as long as we get same day coverage I will take what they give us. Its better than watching the show at 11pm just to make sure all the tape can be ready. This year we got to watch a chick in a pink skirt grunting at a tennis match and at least one close football game. I have a problem when the score of the football game is like 56-3 and the fourth quarter just started. The game is decided, get back on schedule.

Tire Shake, ignore Uncle Buck. You have my permission to post whatever you like. :D
How many times has it been posted that if you don't like the thread, don't read it This isn't a news and information channel only. Some of us just like to shoot the breeze with other people that share our interest in drag racing.
And I'll add I also get tired of ESPN playing the shuffle game.

I'm in Chicago and it started at 10:00 here. I'm sorry I pretty much confused your discussion from qualifying into an example of having eliminations broadcast at 11:00 on a sunday night after we can get results from the internet around 6... .

I'm going to put my 2 cents in on the ESPN2 NHRA sheduling complaints...
I've heard these complaints on every board from here to kingdome come ever since ESPN was contracted to air NHRA drag racing.
1st off, you're NEVER, EVER going to see a LIVE football, baseball, hocky, etc. game end until the game's OVER! A LIVE event is always going to take presedence over a taped event. AND, check the ratings! I may be wrong, but taped drag racing events are barely a blip on the radar.
Speed Channel is NOT an option! Compared to ESPN/ESPN2, Speed Channel is NOT on a whole lot of cable channel lineups. I don't get it where I live, nor do I get FX.:(
Personally, I'm just thankfull we're getting all NHRA events with good, knowledgeable announcers Mike Dunn and Marty Ried and excellent camera work from the ESPN2 crew. Yeah, we're going to get delays once in a while, but to quote a wise old sage... "it is what it is."
Remember the old days when we didn't have much of anything?

You're right but that still doesn't mean we have to like the shuffle. And when the football game is a blow away and ditto for the tennis, why continue the broadcast and pre-empt the next scheduled program? Their viewers have long since switched the channel.

Like Diamond P on the Nashville Network, 1 week later, 90 minutes long, 3 or 4 camera angles, no in-car cameras and slow commentary.
You do have a point there, stephenkj. I have revised my opinions a bit.

Actually, those old TNN shows were pretty good, for their time. Yeah, we didn't have in-car camera's and all the technical mumbo jumbo we've got now, but we had Steve Evans and BigMac behind the mic and that was all we needed.
In fact, I may spend the rest of my living days transferring the hundreds of video taped TNN/ESPN NHRA and IHRA shows to DVD!
We didn't have no stinkin' SpeedChannel back then, but we did have a lot on TNN, some on ESPN, a few on USA, and even fewer on network TV!

Well get use to the air time cut offs and delays... with ESPN getting the TV deal with Cup again.. you can expect more time on ESPN ans ESPN2 dedicated to the round trackers... Drag racing will suffer from it.. bank on it.........
as much as they are paying for the right to the cup races they will slap every kind of show they can together to help pay for it.....
