Whit Bazemore is expected to be introduced to Matco Tools distributors today in Las Vegas as the driver of a second David Powers Motorsports Top Fuel dragster that the tool company will sponsor next year.
Bazemore, 43, had driven a Funny Car owned by Don Schumacher and was sponsored by Matco until being released by Schumacher last month.
In a telephone interview Monday from his home near Indianapolis, Bazemore would not say he had reached an agreement with the Powers team, but acknowledged he planned to be in Las Vegas today to make an appearance at the Seven Cycles display at the Interbike International Bike Expo at the Sands Convention Center.

Matco thinks he's deserving. Those two guys are going to be a real threat next year.

Hey Bubba. I understand it all as he is quite the driver, I just don't like all the baggage that has built up and goes with!!

I hear ya but I want to see how it goes next year. I hope there aren't any problems. There are two really good drivers there that can run with anyone.
Some people seem to take longer to understand the definition of 'team'. And some people never do understand. I hope that isn't the case.

He's not my favorite driver, but kind of ironic he ended up with his old crew chief, Lee Beard.

I know that the Matco sponsorship has always been said that its going to the "second" Powers Motorsports dragster, but does "Hot Rod" have a sponsor lined up for next year? Or did I just miss an announcement of a new sponsor?
In this report on NHRA.com
http://www.nhra.com/content/news.asp?articleid=15176&zoneid=8
it says that Valvoline is leaving after 2006. I would hate to see Fuller get dumped because there isn't a sponsor for him, even though he is under contract through 2008.

I'd have to think they have something else lined up if Powers elected not to renew the sponsorship and is still planning on running the car.

And you know what our opinion is worth. :D
You do have to respect the guy as a driver and what he's accomplished over the years. Nothing was given to him. He had to scratch and claw to get where he is today.

I guess we will have to see what happens between Blaze and Beard. There were times that they disagreed on getting the car to recover. Do you honestly think that Blaze will drive the car Beards way since Blaze has never driven a dragster before. I know Blaze was pissed that the car kept smoking the tires, but apparantly Beard had the timing retard system that would reset when the car was pedaled. It ultimately lead to the release of Beard from Dons stable.
I just cannot believe that this issue wont come up again. It sounds more like Powers already had to agree to Blaze before he got the Matco dollars. My guess is Beard will make the call on the car, but someone else is gonna do the work so he limits his dealings with Blaze.

Valvoline pretty much re-upped with everybody, including sportsman cars.

I am so excited about Whit driving top fuel. I think it will be a great change for him and to be back with Lee Beard will hopefully be a great thing. I wish Whit nothing but the best for his new career. Get Ready TOP FUEL Whit's coming! LOL

i believe i heard frey or somebody say that on the PA at the indy race. and the way i took it was that perhaps valvoline wouldn't be the major sponsor but that they would still be a sponsor.

Watch for Todd Okuhara to jump from the sinking ship and onto that Powers team, if nothing more than a buffer between Whit and Lee. You heard it here first.
