Didn't he at one time try to field a diesel dragster? Back in the early 80's I could swear I saw one at Fairplex.

A few times back in 86 he actually had a 3 car team at the track, Himself, Hank Endres, and Bill Mullins.

He's more than just around !
His business of supplying race parts to Europe and Australia keeps him busy enough that when I asked him if he was interested in finding the "Orange Baron" to restore, he said he had no time to even think about it, let alone do it!

Interesting, I'm going to Maple Grove tomorrow with a friend of mine who has a Diesel truck that he raced in SG about 5 -6 years ago.. It used to be "Conn Diesel" He still runs exhibition with it.. now he's running in the 9.xx twin turbo , if he uses NO2 he can run high 8's..

All 3 out of one trailer too.Badass trailer it was, the side would open up and he would hoist them out of the side of the trailer, then at the end of the day hoist them back through the side and stack them. Carey designed and built the whole rig.

Hank Endres is alive and well as of last July. Talked to Chip Brown and he told me he has a horse farm in TENN.

Dave.... R U a So cal Drag Racer>? I remember that evil wicked mean and nasty car had to be the best name for a race car that I ever saw, growing up At OCIR, Carlsbad and pomona in the late 70's early 80's! They always had their crew guys wearing halloween masks! The finals at Pomona were always a treat when they'd show up! I guess Dave Meziere's HOT N' Nasty Vette was up there as well! Of course I'm kinda partial to the ALCOHOL ABUSE Super Comp car! Hey,,,what ever happened to Craig and Rocky Epperly?....Tim Grose?.... And my favorite So Cal Alcohol Funny Car Driver Chuck Beal?
God I miss So Cal Dragracing....
Livin life at 5280......

I think Harley Griffith sold the Evil, Wicked, Mean and Nasty Alky FC to Don Moffit around 94-95?. And Don burned the car to the ground the very next year.

Chuck had a deal with Jeff to get his Nitro Funny Car license last year ('05). After that was completed, we went to Pomona and Phoenix in February of this year and didn't qualify. Chuck still has his car and a lot of parts and we will compete part time in '07 with a new driver tba shortly. www.chuckbealracing.com is still in development, but we should be adding more content and updated news in the near future.

Rocky Epperley lives down by Laughlin. I usually see him at the Vegas race and sometimes at Pomona.

I hate to dig out a dead thread but is that the same trailer being used by Steve Faria now because his trailer had the side fold out too

The best times of my life were sitting in the stands at Bakersfield after racing all day and watching TA/FC's "Evil, Wicked Mean, & Nasty, run against "The Boogie Man".
Those were the days:) .......

Yes, it is the same trailer. Robert Reehl owned it before selling it to Faria a couple of years ago. Ran his dragster and Oyama's out of it.

And it really wasn't a 3 car team in that trailer. The two fuel cars were Careys, but the other was Mullins sbc alky car.

FYI - after Kile's post I wanted to clarify that Reehl never had two cars in there at the same time. After he was done driving his own deal, the Japanese driver used it under Reehl's direction.

I haven't talked to John in a few years but I think he is still alive. This is his web site www.careysdiesel.com
It is a fact they did run 3 T/F cars out of that trailer for a while. Long ago they raced the Brainard race with all 3 cars and blew them all up one after another on a qualifying shot. The next week there was a picture on the cover of National Dragster of them all on fire, the title said " the Delaware destroyers"

John,
was that after 1987? My mind isn't going back as well as it once did.

They did blow up a lot of stuff...there was another ND cover photo (pre restraints) with the blower case wedged atop the wing

the Evil Wicked Mean & Nasty ta/fc?
Harley Griffith???? My Favorite TA/FC (besides Chuck Beal, but that's because he was also from the San Diego area too) of all time. I'd like to know where he is too. Honestly, if I had the money to start up my own TA/FC, I would try to contact him and ask him if I could bring that car back to life!

Also, if I were running super gas, contact Dave Mezeire and ask him to bring back the "HOT N NASTY" (I think 61 Vette) that dominated Pro Gas in So Cal in the early 80's.

Well, the last I heard, the "RED X" was still running his auto body shop in Springfield...(pick your state). He got tired of the same old thing, and simply said, the heck with it: Sold all his racing hardware.

btw.... who was it that you were talking about? All I see is a "RED X";)

Ah....DANTE! I heard something a while back that Pastorini was still involved in racing, (the outlaw 10.5 stuff), but I am not sure about that.

As far as I know, Jack Clark (the former 1st baseman for the Cards, Padres and San Francisco Giants) is out of the sport.
