Is it me or has anyone else noticed how NHRA event coverage is pushed back in its time slot by anything else. I mean like little leaque games, womens sports of all types, and anything else that is on before it. I wish ESPN2 would get with the program.

I thought the Indy coverage was very well presented.

My issue with the ESPN coverage is commercials. How many times can we see the same commercial in one broadcast? We must have seen the one dumping the sludge on the cars about 50 times throughout the Indy coverage and I am not even sure who's commercial it was? Castrol??
You might think Castrol would produce several commercials to air rather than one. I just tuned that one out. There were several others that aggravated me too.

The commercials did suck.... I lked last year with the Air Hog commercial ! That old farmer was hilarious.
Wanna know how old I am ? I remember back in the day, when my family first got HBO..... it was Commercial FREE !!! Imagine that.
Now I switch channels so fast it gives my dear wife vertigo. A commercial comes on ? BAM...hit recall on the remote...another commercial ? BAM... shift up to the speed channel. etc...etc...etc..... Until the wife finally gives up and leaves. (which is fine) She doesnt seem to mind sitting there listening and watching the inanely stupid commercials today. Sheeesh....

Please POWERade take that big wheel commercial off. That has to be the worst commercial I've ever seen.

Oh but thank God Marty Ried is back, even if it is just for a few broadcasts.
But concerning the main topic, I imagine that in the world of sports coverage NHRA just doesn't pull much weight and therefore is subject accordingly.
Anyone have any idea what TV ratings are for our dear sport?
It's a tuff gig, unless you've been to the live events, drag racing just doesn't translate well to television.

A live ball game will pre-empt a taped show all the time.
What really stinks is when the show starts late because of a live show running over, and ends on time because of the beginning of another live show.
In all, I'm not complaining about the ESPN TV coverage. I think it's been ok.
The good thing about taping the shows is being able to FF through the commercials. I'm sick of all of them... including the Harley and his 'creedo'.
Yikes! But they pay the bills. Glad the Air Hog ones have gone away, along with the Basketball one. I could recite them word for word by the end of the season.

Agreed... but at least its better than the old old days when we got the winters on wide world of sports, and then it got a little better when diamond p would put together 1/2 hr shows.

Yeah, I see it too and it pisses me off...dragsters are unique and all American and deserve more respect than ESPN is giving...instead of the ticker underneath saying "NHRA is coming up right after the politically correct stick and ball show" they should start the live feed or tape on the cars as scheduled and the ticker could report the final score of the sticky ball show.
