For a moment, just forget what the IHRA was during its glory days. Try to wipe from your memories what the current leadership has done to racers, legacy, and the current state of affairs. It might be a lot to ask. But consider this, if your local track were to simply book a two day show that included 6 classes of sportsman racing, top fuel, AFC, nostalgia FC, and mountain motor pro stock (including 3 rounds of qualifying), wouldn't you be excited? This sounds like an event I would be interested in attending. Is it traditional IHRA racing? No. If it makes you feel better, just tell yourself that the IHRA went out of business. In its place, a new travelling drag racing experience has surfaced possibly with more in common with the Super Chevy Show than the NHRA. I have enjoyed my time attending national events at MIR. I've also enjoyed the past few years watching the NHRA at Richmond. Now it may be that the only national event passing through my neck of the woods will be the one at Maple Grove. If this is the case, I gotta fill my drag racing plate with something. I guess I'll be heading to Budds Creek next September to see some kind of drag racing show. In the end, it may not be that bad. Just don't get wrapped up in the thought of what used to be. Those days are gone, at least in the IHRA.

Nice try shreds, But I'm sorry that wont work in my case......Its kinda like saying " Pretend your not looking @ stock BUT just imagining you are seeing 45 ProMods going down track instead " ........I think the NEOPM show will be better than an IHRA National event or whatever they are gonna call it......Plus I heard that there will not be an elimination format next year in IHRA or something to that effect.......I'm just thankful that The NHRA, GSA , Roger Burgess & others have made ProMod an official class in the NHRA with a TV package to boot. NHRA is the BEST show in ALL of DragRacing with The BEST NITROCARS on the planet in T/F , N F/C , ProStock , ProMod & The BEST sportsman racers in the country in there classes.

I enjoy the heck out of going to local quick 8 races, so I think I will like going to the IHRA races. Really there are a few of the new classes that I am looking forward to seeing. However, I will never be able to get over the fact that the IHRA could be so much better. That being said, my feeling is that someone that would pass up on going to an IHRA fan in their area isn't really much of a drag racing fan. Now, someone who isn't willing to drive 4/5 hours to go to one like they used to is another story. I guess it is a lot like those who say they won't go to NHRA events because the nitro guys only run 1000' or pass on ADRL events only because they are eighth mile. Thats fine and you are free to not go, but to me, I like to try and take advantage of ANY event with fast, loud cars within driving distance of me. Perhaps the fact that the two closest tracks to me have both lost national events the past few years I am looking at it differently. But I will tell you, I would gladly have any of the above at these tracks (thank you AHRA) rather than sitting at home watching NASCAR/Drag Racing on TV or going to my local tracks to watch bracket racing.

according to the press release on ihra.com about the pro nostalgia f/c class, it says thats in modern top fuel cars the driver is taken outta the equation by all the computers and electronics and its basically boring. thats a great way to talk up your main nitro class for the upcoming year isnt it?

I'm with Frank on this one. I don't want to put out of my mind what aaron polburn has done to IHRA. And as long as he is affiliated with them in any way, they won't see any of my $$$$$. I'm certainly going to miss my IHRA Pro Stockers too.

I definitely agree. NHRA is far from perfect, but it's still the best. If what the IHRA currently is wants to survive, they should consider the ADRL business model. I love hot rodding and drag racing and I'd watch almost anything that lets me in for free. If you're charging for tickets, you'd better have a good show if you want racing fans to come the first time, let alone come back again the next year. Charging for an inferior product just ain't gonna get it done.

NHRA will never be the same untill they go back to 1320 nitro racing (thats their bread and butter) not Pro Mods. They are the best (not saying much in the racing world) in Drag Racing but not the same as years past and thats why I don't go to NHRA events and I miss Maple Grove. I will give IHRA (mir) race one more shot next year get it right. Im hearing the ticket prices will be much lower next year.

While I'm not sure about the National Events (Nitro Jams
), for those who say the IHRA is dead as a sanctioning body, several track owners must like what they have to offer. http://ihra.com/article/5381.html From what I hear, Montgomery is a heck of a track.
