Jenkins never would have dominated anything if Wally and company hadn't changed the rules, to favor G.M. as they had nothing to run with, let alone beat the hemis. A few years later when Bob Glidden became dominate they changed the rules again to favor G.M.. Those of you who have been around might remember the Chrysler Nationals held at Kil-Kare in Xenia Ohio. This undercover event was conducted the week before Indy to determine the best Hemi car to win P/S at Indy. Wally got word of it and started a vendetta against Chrysler, much like he had against Garlits for opposing the nitro ban,and Wallys treatment of racers.

Not in my opinion...the GM cars could beat a hemi on occasion, and the Fords could as well. NEITHER could beat a hemi with Ronnie Sox at the helm. Sox was the ultimate driver, and he and Martin could get more out of a hemi than anyone else. Those were the days when all the manufacturers had pretty good iron. It was the Grump's dominance with a combination that exploited the loopholes in the rules that began the constant tweaking of the rules to try to bring balance.

That depends on whether the contestants are in it for fun or for serious competition. If it's too serious, you'll be absolutely right.

It would be pretty interesting to get a look at the NHRA Pro Stock rules from '72. Just to see what the "loopholes" were that allowed Jenkins to get Jack Hart's approval to put a tube frame under that Vega.........

What I'm tryimg to figure out is... aside from pulling some actual old ProStock Vegas, Pintos, Mavericks etc.. out of the mothballs... where are the cars going to come from to be built to compete in this class that still have factory firewalls, dashboards etc..?
