That would be all 6 seasons and how they turned out had the countdown to the championship never been invented. Some interesting champions on the list that are different. Rod Fuller and Tim Wilkerson for example. Antron Brown would have been the first african american champion 3 years ago in 2009. I believe that would have been his rookie season in Top Fuel. The rules are as they are and everyone knows the game going in. Obviously this is all just for fun and to see what might have been. It's also interesting looking back over some of the names in the top 15 over the last 6 years and see who is and isn't still out there competing.

Thanks. Got to keep this thread around for the years to come.

Since you got it covered to the start, you got any brain power left to do the 2006 (TF anyway) if it were the countdown? just to see where Sarge would be and how insignificant that world record would have been, to what it has become:

Got to admit, its one hell of a way to end one of the longest NHRA traditions other than the burnout

For the 2006 Top Fuel Season:
Using the 2007 Countdown to 4 and Countdown to 1, These would be the top 8 that get reset after Memphis:
1. Doug Kalitta 1,270
2. Tony Schumacher 1,134
3. Brandon Bernstein 1,118
4. Melanie Troxel 1,112
5. David Grubnic 966
6. Rod Fuller 937
7. Larry Dixon 911
8. Morgan Lucas 830

Then after Richmond, the top 4 would get reset for Vegas and Pomona:
1 Brandon Bernstein 2364
2 Tony Schumacher 2352
3 Rod Fuller 2341
4 Doug Kalitta 2315
5 Melanie Troxel 2271
6 David Grubnic 2263
7 Larry Dixon 2165
8 Morgan Lucas 2149

The final year end standings:
(Position WITH countdown - position without countdown)
1 - 1 Tony Schumacher 3275
2 - 3 Brandon Bernstein 3163
3 - 2 Doug Kalitta 3152
4 - 5 Rod Fuller 3135
5 - 4 Melanie Troxel 2399
6 - 6 David Grubnic 2349
7 - 7 Larry Dixon 2250
8 - 11 Morgan Lucas 2196
9 - 8 J.R. Todd 1105
10 - 9 Cory McClenathan 1036
11 - 10 Hillary Will 1035

Using the 2008 Countdown that included the top 10 and reset from 2090-1980 after Memphis:
(Position WITH countdown - position without countdown)
1 - 1 Tony Schumacher 2607
2 - 3 Brandon Bernstein 2497
3 - 2 Doug Kalitta 2487
4 - 5 Rod Fuller 2467
5 - 4 Melanie Troxel 2399
6 - 6 David Grubnic 2349
7 - 9 Cory McClenathan 2275
8 - 7 Larry Dixon 2250
9 - 10 Hillary Will 2224
10 - 11 Morgan Lucas 2196

Using the 2009 - Present Countdown that included the top 10 reset from 2110-2000 after Memphis:
(Position WITH countdown - position without countdown)
1 - 1 Tony Schumacher 2627
2 - 3 Brandon Bernstein 2517
3 - 2 Doug Kalitta 2507
4 - 5 Rod Fuller 2487
5 - 4 Melanie Troxel 2419
6 - 6 David Grubnic 2369
7 - 9 Cory McClenathan 2295
8 - 7 Larry Dixon 2270
9 - 10 Hillary Will 2244
10 - 11 Morgan Lucas 2216

Instead of The Run being a clincher for Tony it would have been for Brandon had he had the chance. The championship would have ended in the semi-finals when Tony beat Brandon. IF Brandon would have won and went on to set the record in the finals instead HE would have beat The Sarge by 8 points in the 2007 format or by 10 points in the 2008-present formats. (60 less points for Tony, 60 more points for Brandon.) However, at that point Brandon had a best time of 4.473. If he ran the 4.428 in the final instead of Tony, the required backup would have been a 4.472. He would have lost by .001. He did have a potential backup at that point however to beat the 4.437 needed. Ain't history great?

I would love to see a struggling team, not get a single round win the first 10 races, start coming on at the right time, just sqeak into the Countdown! Then just own the last 3-4 races!

Uh that kind of already happened with Robert Hight in 2009.

^ Then the opposite happened to him this year. I remember, around the middle of the season when he started to not go rounds, that Mike or PP said during a show that they were saving all the good parts, from early in the year, to use in the countdown.

That plan (if there really was one) didn't work out too well.
