I'd guess less than half will actually participate in this. I am curious who put the money up for it though?

Default NHRA Pro Stock Burnout Contest

I think NHRA just "Jumped The Shark" It's hard to watch the slow death of Pro Stock.

I'm glad to see that there is some effort being put into the "show" aspect for Pro Stock.

But, to me, this is a lot like the NBA dunk contest...pretty much the same thing over and over.

Maybe someone will actually do something different like a burnout in reverse?

Here is what will happen, the cars that do long smokey burnouts, the fans will go nuts and yell enthusiastically. The fans will love it, end of story.

I'd prefer the crowd not be the judges and they have spotters to spot the length like in tractor pulling. I'm not looking forward to going through the whole "Who thinks (name a driver) was the best???? OK Now who thinks (name another driver) was the best? OK Now who thinks....."

It's about getting the fans involved, like in monster trucks.

Exactly - If it is in fact a contest & not a pageant (Popularity) it really needs to be on performance and not popularity unless they promote it that way.

If I recall correctly, It started because a team was prepairing tires for Indy. I have seen video of other teams preparing tires a different way, like at their shop with a old chassie with no sheet metal attached, doing burn outs in a specific area behind their shop. I'm going to guess that most competitors are going to show up ready to race with out the need to do half track burn outs to prepare their tires. I think NHRA is beating a dead horse on this one. I'm also pissed, again, because the Stock and Super Stock I want to watch, Wed and Thur, will only have audio in the All Access thing.
