"We were informed this past week while we were down in Bradenton that we were going to have to sponsor a race at a fee of $35,000 to be able to compete in Pro Mod. Our plans are contingent on that."
Is that because the Pro Mod series is a pay-to-play? I'm assuming the other teams have bought in to the series as well then?

The last line is kinda telling, too.

This is what I planned to post about as well. Yeah, 30+ cars competing in the series of what was 10, now is 12 events per season.... why are they being singled out to sponsor one?

That team is not being "singled out" to sponsor an event.
Every RPM team owner with the means to do so has....

J&A, JEGS, Aeromotive, and others, have committed to this type of sponsorship.

Do you think Elite sees the hand writing on the wall about P/S and are getting ready to move on in Pro Mod?

It's possible....Enders kind of alluded to that in the article.

Elite's engine builder Jake Hairston has plenty of experience in the Pro Mod. He's raced with his brother Clint for a number of years in NMCA, SCSN and other organizations.

More on the car and this effort....

Exactly right. This has been a buy in series since the beginning. Everybody has contributed in one form or another. Frankly, this article looks like a bit of a publicity stunt. If Erica didn't know, I can assure Freeman and Hairstons knew. This is not an issue for someone who has plans to expand his engine business into this very realm.

Enders said. "We did this under the impression we would be able to race because I'm a former pro world champion – as the rulebook states. You don't have to have the grade points."

^^Incorrect.

Clarification on this per NHRAracer.com:

There is no mention of NHRA Mello Yello Series professional champions or Lucas Oil Series sportsman champions being guaranteed a spot on the Pro Mod entry lists.

The owner must have grade points from the previous year for the category entering.

I don't think the Hairston's have them. Is it possible go out and actually enough grade points before the Gators?

If ‘Big Chief’ was able to in the blink of an eye I’m sure they can too.
