Default Keith Jackson, Legendary Sportscaster Passes

I intended on posting this on Sunday....

Every story mentioned Jackson as the “voice of college football”, and rightly so. But for many he was also the “voice of drag racing” on TV and even film. Long before there was a Diamond P.

There are many Wide World of Sports clips from the era floating around. I also found this two part educational film that was saved from a trash bin according to the YouTuber’s comment.

Thanks Willy! I was going to post about his passing last weekend but never got around to it. I was going to point out his announcing the Indy 500, Daytona 500 andother races. I remember him on ABC's Wide World of Sports but wasn't sure if he did the drag racing. Thanks for finding those videos!

You're welcome Hemi....

Jackson and ABC delivered what Wally Parks sought. Giving the sport an image of professionalism, legitimacy and respectability.

I'm assuming that like me, your first exposure to televised drag racing was through Wide World of Sports. And those documentaries....in grade school a few of us would beg for things like that rather than films about the Danube River, etc. Sometimes we were successful.
