NHRA is finding out that this can't go on. Blocking out the sportsman classes and Pro Stock with this turtle schedule that isn't working. And it's showing with lots of empty seats. The dragsters and funnys are averaging about 8 to 10 minutes per pair during qualifying. This takes into consideration cleaning the track, oil clean ups and general track checks. The truth is that nitro has reached the point where they are out of control.. They run on the edge of disaster every race. They simply have to much power to control. If the track is to damp, it's to hot or perhaps the traction is to good. Someone will again get hurt or killed this year unless someone finally says this is enough. Let's hope it doesn't happen to spectators.

The oildowns are still a problem RacerRoy. Add to this that the dragsters and funny cars can't be run in a timely matter. To much time between rounds, a long preparation of the track and to much time staging the nitros. They created problems both Saturday and Sunday. If the conditions aren't perfect they can't even run these cars in a safe and efficient matter. Just like the guy said in the other post he thought the nitros would finish Monday and he left. This was part of a curfew problem because you can't run a race in SIX AND HALF HOURS IN GOOD WEATHER.

What sucks is after each run they have to check out the whole track for oil,parts,ect.....And THEN do it all over again.....But thats the nature of the beast I guess.....

FYI, the pro classes (TF, FC and PS) were done by 5:30pm. They more or less ran a regular schedule all day, so why the guy thought they would conclude on Monday is beyond me.

Yes, today they are completing all of the sportsman competition. This is based on the fact that the horrible weather that delayed the entire event forced the sportsman cars to have to wait.

As for the TV coverage...stop freakin complaining about the lack of sportsman coverage. They have their own TV program for that and you can catch it on ESPN2:
3/13/11 Sportsman Eliminations
3:30 PM (ET)/12:30 PM (PT)

And the next time you guys go to an NHRA National event, take a look at the stands during your beloved Pro Stock and Sportsman runs, it's a ghost town! The fuel cars are what puts butts in the seats!
