Default World Series of Pro Mod

Announced last week:

Drag Illustrated Media announced yesterday it will venture into the world of race promotion this summer. The Drag Illustrated World Series of Pro Mod, August 4-5, 2017, will feature the best drivers and teams that legal Pro Modified racing has to offer. The first-of-its-kind, $100,000-to-win, winner-take-all event will be held at Bandimere Speedway near Denver, Colorado.

Mike Janis just posted his invite on Facebook. Sounds an awful lot like some Street Outlaws influence. 14 cars by invitation only, one by fan vote, and one that wins a separate event the night or week before. 3 quarter mile shakedown runs with the scoreboard turned off, first round pairings drawn out of a hat.

I applaud DI for their desire to get into the promoting business. But there are some aspects of it that are interesting and some that I don't agree with. The biggest thing I think he should have done is have 8 invites and 8 open spots. As it sits now you would have to haul a long way, pay $1000 for one shot on Friday night to get into only ONE spot open by not only participating in the shootout but winning it. I think in the current racing climate, making things MORE expensive for racers while giving them LESS chance to participate doesn't make good sense to me.

He states he has 40 racers interested by phone but that is not the same thing as 40 racers on the property come race day I can promise you that. I also don't agree with winner take all purses. Its another way to leave racers with absolutely zero for their hard efforts (in reality, they're left in the negative expense-wise). I think the novelty of the event will make it a good one this year, but to grow the event and make it sustainable in the years to come would require some changes to the plan IMO.

What does NHRA pay to the Pro Mod winner at one of their events? Would it still be very attractive to teams if it was $50k to win, and the other $50k split up into round money? Will 3 runs without clocks be enough to tune to the vastly different air up there?

I've raced up there years ago and its like chaining a dump truck to you race car and running. I think the no score boards is hokey but that's just my opinion. I think if the purse was split up it would be a better deal for racers.

Aeromotive steps up it's involvement, putting up $10,000 to the winner of the Wild Card Shootout.
