Interesting choice of propulsion - that big jet engine they keep showing isn't what pushes Bloodhound SSC to 1000mph. It simply gets it up to 300 or so, where a rocket engine takes over. And to drive the rocket's oxidizer pump, there's a supercharged Jaguar V8 aboard just for that. No wonder there's so many instruments and switches.....

The jet engine produces about 13,500 pounds of thrust; not nearly enough for a LSR. The 'car' that holds the current record, Thrust SSC, needed 40,000 pounds from its two F4 Phantom engines to achieve 763mph.
