And HD tried to blame their current woes on trade tarrifs. No, most baby boomers that bought a HD in the last 20 years do not need another one because they do not ride anymore, just sitting in garage.

HD had the perfect opportunity with Buell to produce sportbikes but were making so much money on Ultraglides they stepped away from Buell.

Think about showroom foot traffic. Look at how Dodge is promoting performance, not many going to buy a Demon but has all the car magazines talking about it as well as Top Gear TV show doing a story on it. Also Jay Lenos TV show did a story on it. Drives showroom traffic.

Even Mercedes had to step up a do a commercial about horsepower, did you see the one with the front engine dragster

Kinda sounds like what NHRA and HD have going on.
Yep, ATI Performance Products. It was great! Lol.

Harley finally got some competition in flattrack racing.

Indian (Polaris) stepped in and has been kicking Harley's ass! Harley keeps throwing money at it but they aren't getting the desired results.

See what happens when you can't buy the rulebook and there is true competition.

HD and performance in the same sentence has always been a reach for me. They have upped their game from the minivan status of performance motorcycles (although minivans are much more reliable) to a somewhat well equiped SUV but never have they reached the performance world of the of the Japanese 4 or the European exotics.
Are they where they want to be, probably. For HD it's all about image. How else to you get someone to pay $70 for a $5 teeshirt. How long will they stay in NHRA? As long as it boosts their image without having to produce a street bike to back it up.

Have to love this:

Harley gets the big corporate tax cut, then closes the Kansas City plant and on top of that, they are opening up a plant in Thailand. 800 people will be out of job.
