Sad to hear about the passing of Steve. He was one of the unsung heroes out there in NHRA. Got the chance to talk to him a few times over the years, two that stand out was at Sonoma in 2012 after his car had a pretty bad fire in Q4 after running really strong that weekend. He was pretty philosophic about the ordeal and even though he wasnt sure he and the team wouldnt be able to get the car ready for final eliminations he was happy that the car was running competitive.

Also got the chance to talk to him for a bit at the preseason test last year. As I was strolling through the pits I was surprised to see his trailer and his car there after they had a crash in Vegas at the end of the previous season. He mentioned that he thought about parking the big car but like many others he loved it too much to just stop. We chatted a bit for the next few minutes about what it took to fix the car and what surprised me was that he remembered me from Sonoma all those years ago and commented that even though it was an expensive result he liked the photo I got of his car.

It was great to see him run the big show car with guys like Jeff Arend, Jon Capps, TJ and others.....always liked rooting for him. Also was great to see him win a couple nostalgia titles in recent years.....shows that he could still get the job done with the best of them.
