RIP Tom "Mongoose" McEwen! First heard of him before his Mattel Hot Wheels fame - When I was a kid, I used to build plastic car models, mostly drag racing cars. One of which, (around 1969), included as a bonus, "Sounds of Drag Racing", a square cardboard "record" that you could play on your record player (phonograph, or turntable as it's known today). So cool for any kid to get this bonus "record" in your model car kit! Tom left us with great memories. Cheers Tom! Here's the YouTube link that shows (and plays) that square cardboard record... Enjoy! Thanks for the memories Tom!

Did he drive a Mobil1 dragster at one point in the 90s? Or is my memory imagining that?

Sad news.
I'm old enough to have had the Hot Wheels versions of the dragster and funny car as a kid.

I was wishing I still had them as I was typing.

Sadly, my Hot Wheels all led a hard life. There were no survivors...
