The NHRA is not really held accountable so they wallow around doing some things right but too many wrong. There isn't a shareholder group to scream "you're failing!" Look at:
1) Racers: we can complain but it's their sandbox. race or go elsewhere
2) Fans: Some diehards, but they're dying off. New fans are in short supply. Like other racing organizations this is a systemic problem
3) TV: NHRA pays to have the races broadcast instead of the other way around.
4) Sponsors: Coca Cola Company pays "whatever" and it's obviously a deal for them or they wouldn't put up with stagnant audience numbers. And the named-products are minor ones.
5) New sponsors: Nobody of significance that hangs around for very long. I suspect the deals cut are sub-market in price type.

So there isn't pressure for NHRA management to perform better - only their own internal measurements and pressures. Whatever they are.

Non-profits are great for some type of organizations - NHRA isn't one of them. Unless you have the checks and balances of performance expectations measured and rewarded / punished....you have what we have now.

I'm actually sad to read a letter like that and realize that inside our most precious sanctioning body running our beloved sport lies.....is a cancer.
Excellent Post !!
