Default ADRL Dragstock at Rockingham.. Sept 14th & 15th

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. – Dragstock IV, the breakout Pro Modified drag racing event that last year attracted the largest one-day crowd in Rockingham Dragway history, is shaping up this season (Sept. 14-15) as a showdown between current Pro Extreme points leader Joshua Hernandez of Conroe, Texas, and Pro Extreme national record-holder Jason Scruggs of Saltillo, Miss.

Those two Pro Mod superstars have been on a collision course since the start of the 2007 season and both have a history of success at The Rock. They will be among an expected 100 drivers competing in three different classes.

Hernandez, driver of “Dr. Moon’s Rage,” the all-conquering 1968 Chevy Camaro maintained by veteran tuner Howard Moon, won the Pro Mod title at the 2006 IHRA Spring Nationals at Rockingham Dragway and is the track record holder for quarter mile time at 6.990 seconds.

Scruggs, meanwhile, is both the track and national record holder for eighth-mile time (3.813 seconds) and speed (198.44 miles per hour) and should have a brand new 2007 Dodge Stratus sorted out in time for Dragstock IV, which will be expanded to two days as the next-to-last event in the ADRL’s Flowmaster Series.

In addition to his victories on the ADRL and IHRA circuits, Hernandez has won four of five Pro Modified races this season in the NHRA POWERade series in which he has been clocked in best-in-quarter mile-history 5.912 seconds.

Aside from those two, the contenders include 2006 Pro Extreme champ Bubba Stanton of Potts Camp, Miss., and his “Widowmaker” 1963 Corvette and a piar of Carolinians – former IHRA Pro Stock champ Mike Bell of Asheboro and reigning IHRA Pro Mod champ Quain Stott of Columbus.

Bell, driving a 2007 Ford Mustang for legendary Carolina racer Roy Hill, won the ADRL race earlier this year at Houston, Texas.

In addition to Pro Extreme, champions also will be crowned this September in the Pro Nitrous, Extreme 10.5 and Extreme Motorcycle divisions.

The Pro Nitrous favorites include two Alabamians, a Texan, an Oregonian and a Carolina favorite son.

Points leader Johnny Pilcher of Chancellor, Ala., and defending Rockingham champion Shannon Jenkins of Tuscaloosa, Ala., share top billing with veteran Terry Housley of Lenoir, N.C., Thomas Myers of Granbury, Texas and touring pro Dennis Radford of Baker City, Ore.

Like Scruggs in the Pro Extreme class, Jenkins, a former IHRA and NHRA champion, has abandoned his early model Chevrolet and is pursuing this year’s ADRL title in a TORCO-backed 2007 Pontiac GTO.

Veteran Mike Hill of Washington, Ga., winner of three consecutive events in the Flowmaster-sponsored Holcomb Motorsports Outlaw 10.5 series at The Rock, is the current points leader in the Extreme 10.5 class at the wheel of his 2006 Ford Mustang although Rodney Rosentiel’s wild 1970 Opel GT has been a fan favorite and Rockingham track record-holder Steve Kirk of Monroe, Ga., is expected to challenge in a “new” 1963 Corvette that has covered the eighth mile in 4.325 seconds.
