Aussie Top Fuel Resumes With Match Racing

Comments

  • Sadly, this wasn't meant to be a Top Fuel match race. It was billed as the first major event after our COVID restrictions had eased.

    Excitement should have been high.

Press Releases should have been sent out showing off new liveries.

Social Media updates building up hype for the return of 400 Thunder Championship Drag Racing.

400 Thunder did their part. They announced an exciting new TV Production and Distribution deal. What a way to introduce the new production team tasked with covering the sport this weekend for the new TV deal. Willowbank Raceway have a new CEO in place, who comes from a stadium sports and events background. All the pieces were in place.

2 of the biggest names in Aussie Top Fuel - The Rapisarda's and Lamattina's - not only didn't appear on the entry list - they didn't offer a prepared statement for their fans. Bummer.

COVID concerns? Racing at Easter? State border restrictions? Take any of these reasons and place it into a statement, and the majority of race fans would have accepted the news on the chin. Instead, we got nothing. It would've saved face. For the teams and for Willowbank.

While COVID-related concerns are certainly feasible, the sport's stakeholders need to work together with open lines of communication to ensure that everyone gets the show they want and deserve, for their money.

Well stated Dan. Very disappointing for everyone. Result of a 3 day lockdown according to this brief press release:

Yeah that's correct Yvonne. The event was officially cancelled this past Monday when the 3-day lockdown was announced, however the entry list for the event looked weak in the lead-up. This afternoon, we'll find out if the lockdown is to be extended over the weekend due to new covid cases appearing.

We now turn our attention to Sydney for the Gulf Western Oil Nitro Champs, May 6-8.

The new track surface is billed as arguably the world's flattest. Graeme Cowin's Outlaw Funny Car show ran there this past weekend where they had nostalgia Funny Cars running in the 5.30s and 5.40s at 275mph+

N/FC's in the 5.30's WOW!! That would signal excellent track conditions! Keep us posted if you hear any other testing numbers, thanks!
